About Why train at IATE? The Premises Taster Days

A WELCOME FROM THE FOUNDING DIRECTORS

Dr Ken Pickering Margot Sunderland

We welcome you to our website for the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education: a fully accredited, independent College of Higher Education of twenty years' standing offering a unique provision for the needs of part-time students.

Whether you are wishing to develop a creative interest, work with people in a variety of contexts, or establish or enhance a career in Arts Psychotherapy, Child Psychotherapy or Education by the acquisition of Advanced Qualifications, you will find something appealing in these pages.

We have always had a vision of an inspirational learning environment in which the enquiring mind, the creative spirit and the expressive body are equally honoured and we believe that you will be able to share that vision in our beautiful premises, situated in one of the most stimulating parts of London.

Our students benefit from the theatres, art galleries, dance / music venues, cafes and restaurants of Islington and also, academically, from our vital partnerships with London Metropolitan University who validate our four Masters Degree programmes and with The Centre for Child Mental Health

The Institute has a total commitment to diversity in its student body and rejects any form of discrimination.

We adopt a holistic and integrated approach in all we offer: underpinning our work with a largely humanistic philosophy.

Our teaching-style aims to provoke questions rather than provide ready answers; to give students the confidence to re-engage with study; to explore and experience the healing powers of the creative imagination; to think deeply and read widely. Our tutors are all recognised experts in their field but are united in a nurturing and concerned outlook that makes the individual needs of students and their eventual clients their priority. We prepare students in a supportive way to work in potentially difficult and emotionally challenging situations and we share with them our belief that the Arts and active use of creative imagination enable us to grow and make sense of the world.

An essential step in becoming a student here is to experience one of our 'taster days'. We urge you to join us for one and to explore this prospectus for details of what we can offer you. We greatly look forward to welcoming you here.
