Format and Time Commitment
The taught part of the MA runs over two years. It comprises six taught modules. Four modules are taught over eight weekend days. In addition, two modules are taught one evening a week for one term.The third year consists of private research in which you can follow your own chosen line of enquiry about Emotional Literacy for Children.

How flexible and accessible is the course?
Very. In order to make the course as accessible and inclusive as possible, it has been designed with stand-alone modules, each with recognised credits. The more modules you complete the more credits are gained and different levels of qualification are achieved.

One term: Certificate in Emotional Literacy for Children

One Year: Post-Graduate Certificate in Education: Emotional Literacy for Children (London Metropolitan University)

Two Years: Post Graduate Diploma in Education: Emotional Literacy for Children (London Metropolitan University)

Three Years: MA in Education: Emotional Literacy for Children

Teaching staff
Expert professionals from the fields of Education, Health, Psychotherapy, Parent-Child Intervention, Family Therapy and Neuroscience.

Course Directors: Julia Bird and Lynne Gerlach
Julia and Lynne have extensive experience in both education and psychotherapy. They have worked as teachers, advisers, inspectors (including OFSTED) and consultants. As UKCP Registered Psychotherapists they have worked with children, adolescents and adults. They have created the ENABLE CD Rom, an interactive computer programme designed to offer practical strategies to work with the emotional needs underlying children’s challenging behaviours. They have co-authored ‘Improving the Emotional Health and Well-being of Young People in Secure Units’ (DoH/NCB, 2005) and ‘Feel the Difference: Learning in an Emotionally Competent School’ (CELSI, 2003). They have also contributed to the National Healthy Schools Guidance document on Emotional Health and Well-being (HAD, 2004).

Senior tutors include:
Dr Dan Hughes (International Guest Trainer) and Margot Sunderland (author of ‘Draw on your Emotions’, the ‘Helping Children with their Feelings’ series and ‘The Science of Parenting).

Yes. Child Professionals who wish to extend their current skills can choose to undertake the number of modules most relevant to their interests and responsibilities safe in the knowledge that modules carry University recognised credits. Professionals wishing to broaden their career opportunities, become more eligible for promotion.
